St. Mary Magdalene

Mary Magdalene lived during the same time as Jesus and is known to have been a member of a group of women who followed and traveled along with Him.  Among Mary Magdalene’s most admirable acts, her strength as a disciple of Jesus and faithfulness were shown when she stayed at the cross of Jesus when many other followers of Jesus fled.  Mary Magdalene’s faith was also reflected when she was the first person to see the empty tomb of Jesus due to the Resurrection.  Mary Magdalene was blessed by Jesus when she was the one He called to spread the news of the Resurrection to others.
Although Mary Magdalene was inspiringly close to Jesus, her life was not always good; the Bible tells us that seven demons were cast out of Mary Magdalene by Jesus.  This fact teaches us that Jesus calls us (along  with our imperfections) to be close to Him and to spread the Word of God.
Mary Magdalene is honored on her feast day of July 22 as the patron saint of contemplative life.
